As you all know, Winston is and will always be my sweet little dude.
This past Monday, he and I celebrated two years since I brought him home. And in just two weeks (June 26), we will be celebrating his third birthday.
Winston and I are always active. We go to the park almost daily if the weather cooperates. First, we visit the dog park, and then we head over to the main city park for our walk.
At the dog park, everyone knows his name. Winston is a regular there—like Norm on Cheers. We even have a favorite spot—a bench—where he likes to sit, much like Sheldon on The Big Bang Theory. From there, he can sit on my lap and oversee what’s going on around us. He doesn’t like to mingle with bigger dogs and won’t tolerate them approaching us. The regulars, like us, jokingly say the park should be renamed “Winston’s Park.”
During our walks at the main city park, I sometimes strike up conversations with other park-goers. They often talk about their canines, and sometimes they have their little dogs with them. This past weekend, a young teenager had a five-week-old dachshund puppy who was absolutely adorable. The little guy wanted to play with Winston, but Winston was content to sit in the grass and watch a little league baseball game.
Like all dachshunds, Winston has some peculiar quirks. Sloopy, my previous dachshund, had some too, but her quirks were quite different from Winston’s. These unique traits are what make each dachshund special.
In celebration of Winston’s upcoming third birthday, if you would like to send him a gift, please feel free to do so. At the bottom of this blog, I will list several treats and toys that he likes. You can also send comments on his new Instagram and Facebook pages. What are some of your canines’ quirks?
